  SNORING AND SLEEP APNOEA

Snoring is basically a vibrating sound produced by narrowed upper airway. The narrowing can be anywhere from the tip of the nose to the larynx. The common sites for narrowing are nasopharynx and oropharynx. In children, enlarged adenoids and tonsils contribute to most of the snoring and sleep apnoea. In adults, obesity with narrowing of oropharynx, lax oropharyngeal tissues, bulky uvula and soft palate, tonsils and massive tongue all contribute to snoring. In Sinus and Nose we have devised our own Endoscopic sleep study which gives information regarding the site of obstruction. From the conventional polysomnography the site of obstruction cannot be inferred.

We do airway augmentation surgery for snoring and sleep apnoea.
